Akasa Air Gets Govt's Nod; To Start Operation From 2022

New Delhi: The government has granted No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Akasa Air, backed by billionaire Rakesh JhunJhunwala.

Akasa Air is a low cost carrier and it is expected to take-off across India from next year and it's also planning to operate 70 planes in the next four years.

A low cost carrier is a 'No Frills Airlines' which means that only essential facilities are provided to the passengers, due to which the journey is cheap. Non-essential amenities such as in-flight entertainment, in-flight meals and business class seating are spared in order to make air travel affordable for passengers.

''Akasa Air wants to launch the nation's most dependable, affordable and greenest airline for Indians. The airline is expected to serve all Indians irrespective of their socio-economic or cultural background,'' Dubey added.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vinay Dube in a statement on Tuesday asserted that the airline will continue to work on all additional compliances required to launch the airline successfully with the regulatory authorities. Further, he also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Civil Aviation for their support and for granting NOC.

Apart from Vinay Dube who is ex-Jet Airways CEO, Akasa Air also has former IndiGo President Aditya Ghosh on its board.

Following the aviation ministry's nod, the airline will now seek clearance from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

According to several media reports, the Akasa Airline is likely to place an order for about 100 Boeing 737 Max which DGCA recently allowed to fly in India.
